PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, April 10 (Itar-Tass) — An An-26 with five tonnes of food and medicines has left here for the Kamchatka Territory'sTilichiki district center. The dispatch of a second plane with another four tonnes of supplies is under consideration, an official at the Territorial Ministry of Special Programmes and Cossack Affairs has told Itar-Tass.

According to the administration of the Olyutorsky District in the northeast of the Kamchatka Peninsula, two ships with a cargo of food are unable to get unloaded due to a heacy ice situation in the Karagin and Korf gulfs. This brought about a shortage of food in a number of inhabited areas.

The situation was analyzed by the Territorial commission for warning about and the elimination of the aftermath of emergencies. A decision was made to bring food supplies there by two planes.

The Olyutorsky District comprises seven inhabited areas with a population of about 4,700, all in all. The Territorial authorities recommended the district administration to take measures to prevent entrepreneurs from hiking the prices of staple foodstuffs in this situation.
