MOSCOW, April 9 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia has provided over 100 million roubles worth of humanitarian aid to Tajikistan, the Foreign Ministry said on Monday, April 9.
“In accordance with the instructions received from the president and the government of Russia, the Emergencies Ministry has carried out a humanitarian operation to provide assistance to the population of Tajikistan. To this end, Il-76 planes of the Russian Emergencies Ministry made flights on April 3, 4 and 5 to deliver relief supplies to Dushanbe,” the ministry said.
A total of 113.5 tonnes of supplies (tents, heaters, mobile power plants, rescue sets, utensils, and canned food) were delivered.
Tajikistan experienced abnormally cold weather this past winter for the first time in 50 years, with heavy snowfalls that caused extensive damage to the country’s economy.
Weather forecasts say that April and May will also be challenging time with floods and landslides.
