Moscow’s new territories to be divided into three zones - Sobyanin

Many big and medium companies, as well as some universities express the desire to move to new Moscow

TROITSK (Moscow region), April 9 (Itar-Tass) —— Moscow’s new territories will be divided into three zones, Moscow’s Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said during a meeting with Russia’s president on expanding of Moscow.

“It is reasonable to have town planning zones with equal regimen of development in new territories: the close zone with partial urbanisation, the middle zone to include local town planning complexes and social facilities integrated in the nature; and the far recreational zone for development of tourism, leisure and preservation of the nature,” Sobyanin said on Monday adding that the far zone would be the biggest one.

The mayor said the plans for the new territories include “six new business and civil centres: an administrative-business cluster, including a governmental block, a financial centre, clusters of research and innovations, a university cluster, a medical cluster, and a recreation-tourism cluster.”

Sobyanin did not specify addresses of the clusters, and only said that Skolkovo and Troitsk would become scientific centres. Troitsk “will develop its traditional directions – nuclear and laser technologies, modern medicine and new materials.” The mayor also spoke about the plans of the Kurchatov Institute to use the Troitsk Institute of Innovative and Thermonuclear Research for an aggregate for thermonuclear synthesis of the Tokamak type.

Many big and medium companies, as well as some universities express the desire to move to new Moscow, Sobyanin said.

The mayor added “the forests take 50,000 hectares, which is a third part of new Moscow, and they contain over ten special natural preservations.”

“Not that we are going to ruin the natural environment; on the contrary, we are going to improve it,” Sobyanin said explaining the new territories would have different parks.
