70 clients of ITC tour operator facing difficulties stay abroad

A telephone hotline service has been opened where ITC clients can call for legal or any other advice

MOSCOW, April 9 (Itar-Tass) — About 70 clients of the ITC tour operator, which is experiencing financial problems, are staying abroad, Russian Union of Travel Industry spokeswoman Irina Tyurina told Itar-Tass on Monday.

She said “at the moment when the problem emerged, there were about 150 clients of that Russian company abroad, according to ITC”. Up to 100 tourists remained abroad during the weekend, and now their number has decreased to about 70, Tyurina noted. According to her, most of them are still in the Dominican Republic and in Cuba.

She also stressed that “problems that Russian tourists holidaying in Cuba had during the weekend because the tour operator had not paid for their accommodation and hotel administration tried to evict them, have been settled”.

“On Saturday, Russian Consul General in Cuba Zurab Peradze called tourists and pledged that they could calmly continue their holidays, as the problems with unpaid accommodation had been settled,” Tyurina said.

“The hotel confirmed that it had no claims to ITC clients,” the spokeswoman added. Besides, she said that “at the present moment there are no complaints from ITC Russians holidaying abroad,” adding, however, that they may still emerge. “In any case we will follow the situation,” she stressed.

ITC was established in 1995 as a multirole tour operator and a seller of aircraft tickets. It currently sells tours to more than 20 destinations, among them Brazil, Mexico, Vietnam, the Philippines and Peru. On April 5, it became known that the tour operator had suspended the dispatch of its tourists because of financial difficulties.
