TSKHINVAL, April 9 (Itar-Tass) —— Leonid Tibilov, the former head of South Ossetia’s State Security Committee, has been elected President of South Ossetia, chairwoman of the republic’s Central Election Commission Bella Pliyeva announced on Monday.
Tibilov won 54.12 percent of the vote, according to the Central Election Commission.
“A winner should score a simple majority of the vote, i.e. more votes than the other candidate and the “against all” line in the ballot papers,” Pliyeva said.
“Leonid Tibilov won 54.12 percent of votes, while his rival, David Sanakoyev, scores 42.65 percent of votes, and 0.96 percent of voters cast their votes against all. Thus, Leonid Tibilov has been elected President of South Ossetia,” she said.
