Intl marathon race to be held in Pyongyang on occasion of Kim Il-Sung’s birth date

Mangende is a legendary village, Pyongyang’s eastern suburb, considered to be a birth place of Kim Il-Sung

PYONGYANG, April 7 (Itar-Tass) — The international marathon race for the Mangende Prize will be held here on Sunday in honour of the upcoming grand holiday in North Korea on April 15 – the 100th birth date of “the first and eternal” President Kim Il-Sung. The date will be pompously marked as “Day of Sun”.

According to the organizing committee of this sport, popular in the country, it will lure athletes from North Korea, China, Russia, Ukraine, Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Sweden, Namibia, the South African Republic and Taiwan. Sportsmen will be flagged off at the Kim Il-Sung Stadium. Marathon winners will get special prizes. Last year, the race was won by a Korean girl and a Russian man.
