MOSCOW, April 6 (Itar-Tass) —— Two militants who staged an attack on a police officer were destroyed in Nalchik.
As ITAR-TASS learnt at the Information Center of the National Antiterrorist Committee (ATC) on Friday, a police lieutenant was attacked with the aim of stealing his service arms in one of Nalchik’s streets on Thursday night. “The officer got knife-wounds in the neck, the chest and the stomach, however, he managed to offer resistance to the criminals and inform the police-station of the Interior Ministry for Kabardino-Balkaria about the incident,” a representative of the Information Center said. He was hospitalized and is in a grave condition at present.
“Already in several hours, the criminals were found and blocked in an apartment of a multi-storey building in Nalchik, the source said.
“During several hours, law enforcers continued to hold negotiations with the bandits. They were offered to lay down arms and surrender to the authorities. However, the gunmen used several grenades against commandos trying to break through the encirclement and escape. The gunmen were destroyed in return fire,” the source said.
The identity of the criminals was established. According to the preliminary information, they are active members of the bandit underground on the territory of Kabardino-Balkaria Alibek Pshigoushev, 23, and Azamat Kansayev, 20.
“According to the information available at the operational headquarters of Kabardino-Balkaria, the attack on the policeman was to start a series of terrorist actions planned by the bandits with regard to servicemen, law enforcers and commandos,” the source added.
