Plane crash victims still in grave condition

Ground icing of plane’s wing and stabilizer remains the most probable cause of the crash

TYUMEN, April 5 (Itar-Tass) — The condition of survivors in the ART 72 plane crash near Tyumen on April 2 remains stably grave. Nikolai Ignatiev, who was flown to Moscow, was operated on successfully, Tyumen Region Governor Vladimir Yakushev said on Thursday.

He also said forensic experts expect to receive results of DNA testing of four indentified bodies by Sunday.

The governor also stressed once again that no alcohol had been found in pilots’ blood and that the fuel was of good quality. Ground icing of plane’s wing and stabilizer remains the most probable cause of the crash. “However, it is still early to draw the final conclusions,” the governor noted.

The ATR-72 operated by the YUTair company went down soon after take-off from the Roshchino airport near the village of Gorkovka. It carried 39 passengers and four crew. Just 12 persons survived.
