MOSCOW, April 5 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia’s Defense Ministry has dismissed media reports Anatoly Serdyukov has asked the country’s leadership not to appoint him to the ministerial post again.

“The media reports to the effect Serdyukov has asked not to appoint him Defense Minister again are falsehoods,” the Defense Ministry’s press-office said. “The systematic media rumors about the dismissal of his team and the possibility the chief of the General Staff, first Deputy Defense Minister Nikolai Makarov may be fired, too, are also devoid of any foundation.”

The Defense Ministry has recalled that “the decision to reappoint or replace the defense minister and his deputies is the exclusive prerogative of the Commander-in-Chief – the president of the Russian Federation.”
