3 presidential candidates submit election expenditures reports to CEC

MOSCOW, April 4 (Itar-Tass) —— Three presidential candidates have submitted their election expenditures reports to the Central Election Commission.

“As of yesterday, the documents were submitted by President-elect Vladimir Putin, registered candidate Sergei Mironov and one of the unregistered candidates, Rinat Khamiyev,” CEC Secretary Nikolai Konkin told Itar-Tass on Wednesday, April 4.

Konkin noted that the deadline for the submission of the documents is April 8 – one month since the publication of the results of the presidential election.

Putin was the first presidential candidate to report his election expenditures.

He used 399,853,821 roubles during the presidential campaign that ended on March 4.

Almost half of this amount - 208.9 million roubles - went to election canvassing and advertising through mass media. Another 118 million roubles were paid for the distribution of printed materials and 48.9 million roubles for mass public events.

Putin's election fund did not exceed 400 million roubles allowed by law. All money above that level - about 34.3 million roubles - were returned to the donators, both individuals and legal entities, and 194.8 million roubles were transferred to the budget.

Precisely one half of the election fund - 200 million roubles - was provided by the ruling United Russia party that nominated Putin.

Putin is the first of the five presidential candidates to have reported his election expenditures.

The Central Election Commission said earlier that the presidential candidates had spent over 1.4 billion roubles on their campaigns.

Two candidates' election finds had reached the maximum level of 400 million roubles: those of Putin and billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov. The latter spent 335 million roubles.

Just Russia leader Sergei Mironov's election fund was the smallest - 136,501,000 roubles, of which he spent 136,481,000 roubles.

Liberal Democratic Party leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky had 250.5 million roubles in his election fund and spent 240,239,000 roubles.

Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov spent 269,871,000 of 273,231,000 roubles.
