VLADIVOSTOK, April 4 (Itar-Tass) — A heavy storm in the north of the Sea of Japan (East Sea) on Wednesday forced suspension of the operation of the Vanino-Kholmsk ferry service across the Tartary Strait.
The cargo-and-passenger ferries plying along the sea lane between the mainland and Sakhalin Island have taken up shelter from adverse weather at the port of Vanino, Khabarovsk Territory.
On Wednesday afternoon, the cyclone may bring about rough sea in Tartary Strait with waves rising 8-10 metres high. The northerly wind velocity may mount up to hurricane-force, up to 35-37 metres per second, according to Far East weather forecasts.
Each of four specialized ferry-boats "Sakhalin" is designed to carry 26 railway cars and 100 pssengers.
