MOSCOW, April 3 (Itar-Tass) —— Damascus has begun to fulfill obligations under the Syrian settlement plan of UN/LAS Special Envoy Kofi Annan, Syrian Ambassador to Moscow Riyadh Haddad told Russian Presidential Envoy for the Middle East, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov on Tuesday.
“There was a detailed discussion of the Syrian events. The ambassador reported the steps the Syrian administration was taking to normalize the situation in the country and confirmed that Damascus had started to fulfill the obligations deriving from the peace settlement plan suggested by UN/LAS Special Envoy for Syria Kofi Annan,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Moscow welcomes the decision of the Syrian authorities to take the first step and to pull out troops from towns by April 10, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday in comment on a meeting of Russian Presidential Envoy for the Middle East, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and Syrian Ambassador to Moscow Riyadh Haddad.
Bogdanov welcomed the decision and stressed the need for “an adequate response of the Syrian opposition and its armed groups, including their clear expression of support to the Kofi Annan plan and practical steps towards its implementation,” the ministry said.
