BRYANSK, March 31 (Itar-Tass) —— Bryansk’s district court on Saturday, March 31, issued an arrest warrant for Alexander Kulagin who has been charged with the killing of a nine-month-old baby.
According to Russia’s Investigation Committee, Kulagin hit the girl on the head during a quarrel with this lover Svetlana Shkaptsova and then threw the baby onto the sofa. He also forbade the mother from calling the emergency care service. The baby died from injuries on the following day. In an attempt to cover his tracks, Kulagin took the girl’s dad body to the forest and burnt it there, burying the ashes in his grandmother’s grave. He then staged the baby’s kidnapping. Her mother told police that the pram with the girl had been stolen in the evening of March 11 in the street. The pram was found in the entryway of one of the houses not far from the reported scene of incident. The search for the baby was conducted for two weeks day and night by more than 1,000 policemen and their colleagues from the Federal Security Service, Emergencies Ministry, drug police and other law enforcement agencies, as well as 1,300 volunteers, local government officials and public aides.
Investigators gathered undeniable proof of Kulagin’s and Shkaptsova’s guilt. Kulagin was detained in Moscow, where he worked on a rotational basis. The girl’s mother as detained in Bryansk. Both confessed to the crime.
