NEW YORK, March 31 (Itar-Tass) —— The prosecution has asked the New York court to sentence Russian businessman Viktor Bout, who last November was found guilty of an arms smuggling conspiracy, to life imprisonment. The request was submitted to the presiding judge, Shira Scheindlin.
Earlier, Bout’s lawyer, Albert Dayan, asked the court to refrain from passing a sentence on his client, because, he said “Bout is not guilty of any of the charges.”
The sentence is to be pronounced on April 5. Bout, 45, is faced with a 25-year term to life imprisonment. He pleads innocence.
