MOSCOW, March 29 (Itar-Tass) —— Journalists were not elected to a new board of directors of the Ekho Moskvy radio station on Thursday, first deputy chief editor of the Ekho Moskvy radio station Vladimir Varfolomeyev, who represents the staff of the radio station at an extraordinary general meeting of stockholders said in his Twitter microblog.

“The new Ekho Moskvy board of directors was elected without any journalists from the radio station,” Varfolomeyev noted. “Venediktov, Yasin, Makovsky and me are no longer on the board of directors,” he pointed out.

Gazprom-Media, which is a controlling shareholder of the radio station (66% of voting shares), urged the early resignation of the current Ekho Moskvy board of directors on December 30, 2011. In the middle of February the radio station agreed with the media holding on a common list for a new makeup of the board of directors for voting at a meeting of shareholders. The list did not include Ekho Moskvy editor-in-chief Alexei Venediktov and his deputy Vladimir Varfolomeyev.

The negotiated list retained the institute of independent directors. Svyazinvest Director General Vadim Semenov and the former Lenizdat general director Yevgeny Trubin were supported as candidates for independent directors. They replaced a representative of the Research Centre of Private Law Alexander Makovsky and the chief scientific fellow of the Higher School of Economics Yevgeny Yasin.

“No reshuffles were made in the staff of the radio station, including the editor-in-chief; and reshuffles in the board of directors envisage no changes in the editorial policy of the radio station,” Gazprom-media noted.

Ekho Moskvy is a round-the-clock broadcasting radio station that went on the air on August 22, 1990. The radio station is a closed joint stock company with a controlling stake of 66% belonging to Gazprom-Media Holding and 34% of stock to the journalists of the radio station. Editor-in-chief Alexei Venediktov has 18% of stock. Four directors from Gazprom, three directors from Ekho Moskvy and two independent directors are included in the Ekho Moskvy Board of Directors.
