MOSCOW, March 29 (Itar-Tass) — Tatarstan has opened another two criminal cases against the former deputy head of the criminal investigation department in the Dalniy police station Almaz Vasilov, who was arrested over the death case of Sergei Nazarov, spokesman for the Russian Investigation Committee Vladimir Markin told Itar-Tass on Thursday.
“The investigation bodies in the Russian Republic of Tatarstan opened two criminal cases against Almaz Vasilov, 24, the former deputy head of the criminal investigation department at the Dalniy police station in Kazan. He is suspected of abuse of power with the use of violence,” Markin said.
The detectives found that Vasilov, who was an operative of the criminal search department then, jointly with unidentified policemen beat up a 20-year-old local resident at the Dalniy police station on February 22-24, seeking to beat confessing testimony out of him. “They inflicted to him numerous hits with hands and legs on various parts of the body. The young man was forced to confess in robbery, then putting off his trousers they were seeking to put a pencil in his ass,” the spokesman said.
However, the detainee managed to get free and run out in the corridor.
“Meanwhile, in March 2011 at the same Dalniy police station Vasilov snapped a 31-year-old man on the face, seeking to beat confession for the stealing of telephones out of him,” Markin added.
Almaz Vasilov and four officers from the Dalniy police station were arrested in the death case after torturing a detainee Sergei Nazarov. He was tortured with a champagne bottle.
Meanwhile, Kazan human rights activists reported Thursday about a new criminal case over the tortures at the Dalniy police station. A 21-yeaar-old students of the Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University is the injured party this time, the press service of the Kazan human rights centre told Itar-Tass. He said that the policemen from the Dalniy police station detained him on February 22, 2011, allegedly for an armed attack, was beaten up at the police station and a policeman was seeking to rape him with the bottle.
The detainee turned to the traumatic medical station, which reported his beating traces, and then he was hospitalized to the neurosurgical ward of the city hospital number 15. The criminal case over the alleged armed attack against the student was terminated. The investigators sided with the police and refused to open a criminal case “over the lack of the event of crime,” the press service reported.
High-profile torturing cases of policemen against the detainees are broadly discussed in the society recently.
