MOSCOW, March 28 (Itar-Tass) — Robbers attacked a driver of a foreign car in southwestern Moscow on Wednesday, stealing from him five million roubles, a city law-enforcement official told Itar-Tass. Police immediately launched an action plan to intercept the criminals.

The driver of a cross-country vehicle was attacked by three unidentified men wearing medical masks in 60-let Oktyabrya Street. "They smashed the car's window and stole a bag with five million roubles whereupon they fled in a Volvo C-60 car that had been waiting for them," a police source said.

Earlier, city law-enforcement officials noted an increased activity of the so-called bag snatchers in the city. Often, they are members of gangs comprising North Caucasus natives.

Police report 29 to 25 attacks on drivers in the city every day. As a rule, all robberies are committed near financial institutions, supermarkets, large offices and at petrol stations. Robbers also attack their victims on the road when they stop at traffic lights or in traffic jams.
