Russia to be absent from meeting of Syria’s Friends Apr 1 - Lukashevich

Russia will be absent from another meeting of the group of Syria’s Friends in Istanbul on April 1

MOSCOW, March 27 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia will be absent from another meeting of the group of Syria’s Friends in Istanbul on April 1, although it has been invited, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Tuesday.

The diplomat explained that the first such meeting was held on February 24. Russia was absent from it, too.

“We have made a decision to abstain this time as well, although we have received an invitation,” Lukashevich said. “Such events have a certain political bias.”

Lukashevich said the participants in the group of Syria’s Friends are preparing grounds for outside intervention.

“They are not concerned about ways of promoting an inter-Syrian dialogue and peace settlement. They are rather preparing grounds for outside interference.”
