NALCHIK, March 27 (Itar-Tass) —— A fire is being fought in the private house in Nalchik where gunmen have been blocked. The fire broke out after an explosion in the house, a law-enforcement source told Itar-Tass.
Gunmen threw a grenade at the cordon. Some time later, an explosion went off in the house, and a fire broke out there, the source said.
The special operation to neutralize members of an illegal group of gunmen began in Nalchik early on Tuesday after fighting when law-enforcement officers attempted to enter Building 2 at Komsomolskaya Street. Residents were evacuated from the nearby buildings. The houses were disconnected from the supply systems.
The counterterrorist operation regime was imposed in the area in Nalchik at 04:30 Moscow time, a source at the operational headquarters of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee in Kabardino-Balkaria said.
