NALCHIK, March 27 (Itar-Tass) —— Supposedly, no more than two gunmen, including one of Kabardino-Balkaria’s underground gunmen group leaders, are blocked in a private house in Nalchik, a source of the republic's law enforcement services told Itar-Tass.

A special operation to neutralize members of an illegal group of gunmen began in Nalchik early on Tuesday after fighting when law-enforcement officers attempted to enter Building 2 at Komsomolskaya Street. Residents were evacuated from the nearby buildings. The houses were disconnected from the supply systems.

The counterterrorist operation regime was imposed in the area of Nalchik at 04:30 Moscow time, a source at the operational headquarters of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee in Kabardino-Balkaria said.
