Gazprom discusses resumption of projects in Libya

MOSCOW, March 26 (Itar-Tass) — Gazprom International, a subsidiary of Moscow-based oil and gas company Gazprom, has conducted talks with Libya’s National Oil Corporation and the authorities to discuss the plans for resumption of activities in Libya under new conditions, the company said in a statement on Monday.

The talks took place on the sidelines of Oil & Gas Libya 2012 - the international exhibition and conference for the regeneration of Libya’s oil, gas and petrochemicals sector that took place in Rome.

“Members of the Transitional National Council of Libya sent a message from Mustafa Mohammed Abdul Jalil, the chairman of the Council, to the forum’s participants and underlined that despite a temporary status of this political body (the elections to Libya’s parliament are scheduled for June) they can assure delegates of their firm intention to respect all earlier existing agreements and contractual liabilities and in every possible way to help develop further cooperation with all interested parties,” the statement read.

Gazprom International took part in three projects on the Libyan territory that were suspended over destabilization of the situation in that country.

Moreover, Gazprom International participates in oil concessions C96 and c97 in partnership with Germany’s Wintershall AG and owns a 49 percent share in the project. In 2010 these two concessions yielded 2 million tonnes of oil and gas condensate and 277 million cubic meters of gas.
