MOSCOW, March 24 (Itar-Tass) — Russia will hold a seminar on nuclear security culture jointly with the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency), according to a document circulated by Russia in light of the Nuclear Security Summit due to take place in Seoul on March 26-27.
“Today it is impossible to imagine that the up-to-date technical system, including the physical protection of a nuclear facility, the record-keeping system and control of nuclear materials, has functioned without fail, high professionals, who strictly fulfil rules in nuclear security. The efficiency of technical measures for protecting nuclear materials depends on realising security problems by all employees of nuclear facilities,” the document says.
“Training personnel and the exchange of high tech experience during different seminars and forums are an important element in developing nuclear security culture. To this end, Russia decided to hold a seminar on nuclear security culture in 2012,” the document says.
The seminar will be held in cooperation with the IAEA. It will involve specialists of interested countries, including the states that signed agreements on the construction of nuclear power plants on Russia’s technology, the document adds.
