Russia’s defense ministry developing concept of cyber security

According to Antonov, the problem of cyber security “is a new challenge to security of the United States, Russia, and other countries”

MOSCOW, March 22 (Itar-Tass) —— Russia’s defense ministry has begun the development of a concept of cyber security in the country’s armed forces, Anatoly Antonov, a deputy defense minister, said on Thursday.

“The armed forces attach paramount importance to issues of cyber security. We are elaborating a conceptual approach to the activity of the Russian armed forces in the information space. This approach will be based on basic principles, rules and measures of trust, in line with which the Russian armed forces will use the global information space,” he said.

According to Antonov, the problem of cyber security “is a new challenge to security of the United States, Russia, and other countries.”

In this connection, he recalled that several years ago Russia put forth a range of initiatives on cooperation in the area of cyber security, but the United States turned a deaf ear to these initiatives at that time.

“I am very glad to hear that in the long run the United States has supported these ideas and we have been working together within the United Nations Organization. I am confident that cooperation between the United States and Russia in this area has good perspectives,” he stressed.
