MOSCOW, March 22 (Itar-Tass) — Russian Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov and President of the Irkut Corporation Alexei Fedorov have signed a contract on the supply to the RF army of a batch of the Su-30SM multipurpose fighter jets. “Under the contract, Irkut Corporation by 2015 will supply to the Defence Ministry 30 aircraft of this type,” the Defence Ministry’s press service told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

“According to Anatoly Serdyukov, the forthcoming supply to the RF Armed Forces of the modern super-manoeuvrable Su-30SM two-seat fighters will significantly increase the combat power of the Russian Air Force,” the press service said. “The plane’s technical capabilities will make it possible to achieve a higher level of pilots’ training, which is especially important in connection with the growth of purchases of new-generation combat aircraft.”

Fedorov said for his part that Irkut Corporation, working in close collaboration with the Sukhoi company, will make every effort for timely fulfilment of the state contract on the supply of fighters.” “The well-regulated large-scale series production of the Su-30 fighters ensures high quality of the aircraft manufactured by the corporation both for the Russian Air Force and for export,” he added.

The two-seat Su-30SM fighter has super-manoeuvrability characteristics, is equipped with phased array radar and can use the modern and future precision weapons of the air-to-air and air-to-surface class. In addition to fulfilment of combat tasks, this fighter can be used for the training of pilots for advanced multifunctional super-manoeuvrable single-seat fighters.
