MOSCOW, March 20 (Itar-Tass) —— The Russian Defence Ministry and the Moscow plant Avangard signed a contract for three years to deliver air defence guided missiles Triumf for the air defence missile systems S-400 to the troops, the press service of the Russian Defence Ministry told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
“Russian Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov and Director General of the Moscow machine-building plant Avangard Gennady Kozhin signed a three-year contract to deliver Triumf air defence guided missiles for air defence missile systems S-400,” the press service said. “Under the state defence order for 2012 the signed contract envisages the full prepayment for the supplier and co-contractors,” the press service reported.
“The Moscow machine-building plant Avangard will become the only supplier of air defence guided missiles of air defence missile systems S-400, its tactical and technical features ensure the hitting of any types of air targets,” the press service reported.
The air defence missile system S-400 is a medium- and long-range air defence missile system of the new generation. This air defence missile system can hit all modern and promising weapons of air and space attack from spy jets, strategic and tactical airplanes, tactical, operational tactical ballistic missiles, medium-range ballistic missiles to jamming stations and radar picket aircraft.
Each air defence missile system can hit simultaneously 36 targets by up to 72 missiles. S-400 is the only system, which can operate selectively with more than four types of air defence guided missiles, which have various start-off weights and fire ranges, creating the defence in depth. S-400 was put into service in 2007.
