MOSCOW, March 18 (Itar-Tass) — More than 50 people have been detained near the Ostankino television center in Moscow in an unauthorized action against NTV.
The detainees include opposition members Sergei Udaltsov and Boris Nemtsov and activists of Moscow organizations of the Solidarity movement and the Yabloko party. According to preliminary reports, they will be taken to the Northern Izmailovo police station. Detentions continue.
State Duma deputy Dmitry Gudkov joined the protest and tried to present it as a meeting with a parliamentarian, which did not require authorization. The attempt failed, and Gudkov said he would help the release of the detainees from police stations.
The protesters said they were holding ‘a funeral service for NTV.’ They came to Ostankino with cookies, flowers and TV sets. The action was held in response to the NTV film, “Protest Anatomy”, which pretty much resembled a propaganda material against the opposition. It claimed that people were allegedly attending protests for cash.
