MOSCOW, March 18 (Itar-Tass) — United Russia members suggested setting up a structure for clearing grounds to form a parliament of the Euro-Asian Union.
This initiative was aired on Saturday by deputy secretary of the presidium of the party’s General Council Yuri Shuvalov at the international conference “Historic experience and new opportunities” that was held at the Centre for Social and Conservative Policy.
Noting that for instance Civil Platform – a social and conservative club of the United Russia Party – is engaged in “pushing bills at the State Duma”, the politician suggested “establishing a Confederation of Public Forces of Europe and Asia in order to push projects and programmes in the Euro-Asian territory and to prepare a situation for forming a structure which could be called a parliament of the Euro-Asian Union”.
He described the establishment of such a Confederation as a “perspective task”. Shuvalov also suggested “staging a large forum in June which could discuss the topic of integration already through social and ideological projects without shelving this topic”.
Besides, Shuvalov claimed “if we are to speak about a global project of integration over the post-Soviet space, it should not be limited to countries that formed the Soviet Union”. “A chance emerges now for us in a dialogue with other states to hold a dialogue on establishing a Euro-Asian Union, economic space and a Customs Union,” Shuvalov emphasized.
“Globalisation prods to creating integration projects. But we shall not stride far away without a cultural dialogue,” he underlined.
In this context, the politician stated that “the crisis of the dialogue of cultures in the European Union that is developing now, the problem is more serious than the economic crisis”. “We have no right to blunder,” he warned.
Speaking on behalf of Civil Platform, legislator Igor Igoshin expressed opinion that integration of countries in the Soviet Union “was based on common sense with a possibility of mandating economic rights to subjects of republics, the rights that we call now as necessary for the country’s development”.
“Moreover, If we possibly achieve everything in a confederation that will shape up over the next 10-20 years, we shall be close to this model,” he expressed hope. “The main principle is freedom, appeal, comfort and economic advantage for all countries in the process of unification.”
At the same time, Igoshin continued, “Russia will face a situation in the process of unification that large territories of our country will demand the same rights as our partner states”. “But we should not fear this,” he continued. “We have built up the vertical of power, we are ready to mandate economic powers to municipalities and we are ready to give possibilities that will create a feeling of perspective for people,” the legislator said.
