European Court of Human Rights has no right to medical treatment directives – Ukrainian minister

“The European Court is not entitled to say who must receive therapy, where and in which form,” he said

KIEV, March 16 (Itar-Tass) —— The European Court of Human Rights has no right to order hospital treatment of ex-Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko, Ukrainian Justice Minister Alexander Lavrinovich said on Friday.

“The European Court is not entitled to say who must receive therapy, where and in which form,” he said. “If the convict’s condition requires treatment outside of the penitentiary, Ukrainian laws permit to do that.”

Timoshenko’s lawyer said earlier in the day that the European Court of Human Rights had compelled Ukraine to provide hospital treatment to Timoshenko who is serving time at the Kharkov penitentiary.
