Petersburg administration authorizes two rallies on March 24, 25

On March 10 around 60 people, who attempted to organize a march down Nevsky Prospect in the city center, were detained

St.PETERSBURG, March 14 (Itar-Tass) —— The administration of St.Petersburg has authorized two rallies due in the city center on March 24, 25.

In the afternoon of March 24 the opposition will march up from Gorkovskaya metro to Marsovo Pole, where a rally will be held, said spokesman for the regional department of Yabloko party Alexander Shurshev. Deputies from the KPRF and a Just Russia parliamentary blocs, representatives of the organizing committee "For honest election", representatives of non-systemic opposition and "The Other Russia" movement are to join the march.

Another rally scheduled for March 25, which has also been authorized by the city administration, will be held on Konyushennaya square.

The recent protest acts, which the opposition attempted to stage in St.Petersburg without coordinating them with the city administration, were cut short by police.

On March 5 city police detained around 280 people who attempted to hold an unauthorized rally on Isakiyev square in protest against the results of the presidential election in Russia. According to official data, around 800 protesters attempted to stage a rally outside Maryinsky palace which houses the Central election commission. The opposition claims law enforces detained some 400 people out of approximately 2,000-3,000 protesters who turned up.
