MOSCOW, March 14 (Itar-Tass) — A referendum on the separation for Scotland is Britain’s internal matter, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

Speaking at the State Duma on Wednesday, Lavrov said, “We consider the referendum on the separation for Scotland Britain’s internal matter.”

“We believe that it is necessary to respect the principles of the Helsinki Final Act saying the borders with Europe are inviolable. Other procedures should follow with the government’s consent,” the minister said.

“We’ve never forgotten Scotland. We have a series of cultural events. Our ships arrive in Scotland on a friendly visit. Our consulate-general works actively,” Lavrov said.
