BAKU, March 14 (Itar-Tass) — Azerbaijan has all resources available to host 2020 Summer Olympic Games, President Ilkham Aliyev said Tuesday in a speech at the opening of an Olympic sports complex in Astara District in the country's south.
"Any international sports competition can be held in Azerbaijan. The holding of world and European championships has already become a good tradition to our country. Considering this, as well as the successful development of our country as a whole, Azerbaijan filed an application in a bid to play host to the 2020 Olympic Games in Baku. The application is under consideration. I think the republic has available all resources to hold Olympic Games," Aliyev said. He emphasized that 95 percent of Azerbaijan's citizens also favour the holding of Olympic Games.
"We have enough sports facilities (for that)," Aliyev stressed, announcing that it is planned to build new ones as well. The Azeri president also pointed out that his country "ensures high-standard safety measures", and enjoys stability and socio-political tranquility, which is also of importance for the holding of Olympic Games.
