NEW YORK, March 12 (Itar-Tass) —— Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger who has met Vladimir Putin some 20 times said on Sunday the Russian president-elect is not anti-Western.

“He is a patriot who feels humiliated by the period of the ‘90s which was the most formative period of his career,” Kissinger said in an interview with CNN.

“He is not anti-Western. When I met him he was very anxious to have a kind of strategic partnership with the United States,” he said adding Putin “is very resentful of what he interprets as intervention in Russian domestic affairs and more of course what he does interpret as some American tendencies to support his political opponents in order to encourage his overthrow.”

“I believe a dialogue is possible and on specific issues he can turn out as a constructive partner,” Kissinger said.
