MOSCOW, March 11 (Itar-Tass) —— Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has submitted the candidature of the incumbent governor of Russia’s southern Krasnodar Territory, Alexander Tkachev, to the local legislature as his nominee for the gubernatorial post, the Kremlin press service reported on Sunday.
Tkachev was on the list of nominees for Krasnodar governor the ruling United Russia party submitted to the Russian president on March 6. Along with Tkachev, the list included two other candidates, Vladimir Lybanev, the head of the Tuapse district of the Krasnodar Territory, and Alexander Trubilin, the rector of the Kuban State Agrarian University.
“Alexander Tkachev said he felt sorry that he would run for governor under the existing appointment procedure, since he wanted very much to take part in elections,” Medvedev then noted. “But taking into account the fact that his office is expiring I will have to make up my mind, as will the local Legislative Assembly, under the existing procedure. Though it would be much more intriguing to run for governor under a news procedure.”
Tkachev’s term of office expires in April. Alexander Tkachev, 51, has been governor of the Krasnodar Territory since 2000.
