VLADIVOSTOK, March 11 (Itar-Tass) — Passenger transportation by buses has started from the In station of the Smidovichsky district of the Jewish Autonomous Region to Birobidzhan-1 station 1, because of a major incident on the Trans-Siberian Railway (TransSib) that disrupted three passenger trains’ movement, the press service of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry’s (EMERCOM) main department for the Jewish Autonomous Region reported.
The incident occurred at the Aur station on Sunday morning in which two freight trains with coal, timber and automobile transport collided. There was a derailment of 23 wagons and three sections of the locomotive, 400 metres of rail tracks and four transmission line poles were damaged. The movement of three passenger trains on the routes: Vladivostok - Penza, Khabarovsk - Birobidzhan and Birobidzhan - Khabarovsk was disrupted. It was decided to transport the trains’ passengers by buses between the In and Birobidzhan-1 stations so that they could take other trains to proceed further on their routes.
The railway clearing operation is underway at the site of the collision of the freight trains. Three wagons have been put back on the tracks, and the work to lift five wagons continues. Railway workers are pulling some wagons into the ditch. The restoration of aerial contact wires is underway. A total of 153 people with 38 machinery units have been working at the incident site. By 16:00, local time (09:00 MSK) it was planned to complete the repair efforts and restore train traffic on one of the TransSib sections.
