MOSCOW, March 10 (Itar-Tass) — The opposition rally “For honest elections” in Novy Arbat, downtown Moscow, has ended, Itar-Tass reports.
People are dispersing; they go in the direction of the Arbatskaya Metro station. Police as well as rally organizers request people not to create jams at the place of the rally and ask them to go in the direction of the Metro station, although some rally participants tried to break through the police cordon so as to go in the direction of the Smolenskaya Square.
According to organizers, 25,000 people participated in the rally. PARNAS co-chairman Vladimir Ryzhkov told this figure to reporters after the end of the rally. “I tell you this officially,” he said. The politician said at the same time that “this is a good figure for the third day of holidays”.
According to Ryzhkov, many potential rally participants are now outside the city.
A similar statement was made by member of the State Duma Gennady Gudkov. “Health-building centres are packed to overflowing, and people sit at their country houses,” he said.
On the other hand, according to official police data, the rally “For honest elections” collected in Novy Arbat around 10,000 people.
