MOSCOW, March 10 (Itar-Tass) — The opposition rally ”For honest elections” starts in the Novy Arbat Street, downtown Moscow. It is attended by around 3,000 people, reports Itar-Tass.

But people are still converging; people lined up before metal detectors.

Participants include many activists of the opposition Solidarity, Left-Wing Front, nationalist movements who came here in groups. Incidentally, nationalists stretched out a long flag.

Rally organizers announced that the number of participants will be around 50,000. “Facebook” that became the main ground for preparing the rally, says that over 6,000 people confirmed their participation in the rally on Saturday morning.

According to Tass, the situation is quiet for the time being; there are many reporters in front of the stage, writing and making snapshots.

Moscow police promises to do its utmost to prevent violations of public law and order. The police department warned that “any attempts of unlawful actions will be cut short in strict compliance with norms of operating legislation, while the guilty will be called to responsibility established by law”.

Incidentally, police already received information on possible provocations after the opposition rally “For honest elections” in Novy Arbat.

“Information, coming to the Moscow Police Department, shows that there are plans by definite groups of citizens to make provocations after the rally in the form of burning fires, sealing-off of streets and putting up tent camps,” Itar-Tass learnt at the press service of the Moscow Police Department.

“In connection with this, Moscow police warns instigators of such actions that responsibility for their behavior will fully rest with them, while all these unlawful actions will be stopped short in strict compliance with operating legislation,” the department said.

A Tass source emphasized that police are ready to ensure law and order.

The rally “For honest elections” where independent observers want to show evidence of rigging and violations at the presidential elections, will be held at the stretch of Novy Arbat between the Novinsky and Gogolevsky boulevards.
