BEIJING, March 10 (Itar-Tass) — China will send to Syria humanitarian aid worth two million dollars, spokesman of China’s Foreign Ministry Qin Gan said on Saturday.
The decision was made “to assist improving of the humanitarian situation in Syria’s several regions, and to demonstrate the friendly feelings of Chinese people to the people of Syria.” The aid will be delivered via the International Committee of the Red Cross.
“China pays much attention to the humanitarian situation in Syria,” Qin Gan said. “The Chinese side supports the leading role of the United Nations Organisation in coordination of the efforts in humanitarian aid.” The country is for delivering humanitarian aid to Syria via an independent structure, which is recognised by all sides. The spokesman added that humanitarian aid should be provided with respect of Syria’s sovereignty. The diplomat called for “objective and overwhelming” analysis of the humanitarian situation in that country.
