TOKYO, March 9 (Itar-Tass) —— Japan has tightened sanctions against Syria over an ongoing conflict between the authorities and the opposition in this Middle Eastern country, Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba said on Friday.
“Despite numerous appeals from the international community, the Syrian authorities continue to suppress the demonstrations. We decided to expand sanctions in order to make our contribution in the stabilization of the situation in Syria,” Gemba noted.
The foreign minister noted that Japanese sanctions spread on 16 Syrian organizations and 20 individuals. From now on Japanese companies will need a special permit of the government for financial transactions with them.
