VOLGOGRAD, March 8 (Itar-Tass) – A diesel-powered locomotive and a heavy-duty KAMAZ truck collided Thursday afternoon at a railway grade crossing near the southern Russian city of Volgograd, local police sources told Itar-Tass.
The truck emerged unexpected on the tracks right in front of the approaching loco at the crossing that does not have a controller’s post.
“As a result of the collision, the truck’s driver died of traumas and the loco veered off the track,” a police source said.
The loco was performing a local maneuver and was pulling two more locos. No coaches with passengers were attached to it.
Road police inspectors, investigators and officials of the Volgan territorial branch of the Russian Railways were trying to establish the causes of the accident at the time of reporting.
