Buranovskiye Babushki group to represent Russia at Eurovision 2012

The Eurovision 2012 contest will be held in Baku in the period from May 22 to 26

MOSCOW, March 8 (Itar-Tass) — The Buranovskiye Babushki (Grannies from Buranovo) group will represent Russia at the Eurovision 2012 song contest, it became known after the final qualifying concert shown live on the Rossiya One television channel.

The band consists of eight grandmothers, but only six are allowed to appear on the Eurovision stage. They are originally from the village of Buranovo, the Russian constituent republic of Udmurtia. The band performs most of their entries in their Udmurt language.

The band performed the song Party For Everybody, outstripping 24 other candidates. The winner was determined by voting of the prestigious jury consisting of eminent music industry figures and viewers in a 50/50 proportion.

The Eurovision 2012 contest will be held in Baku in the period from May 22 to 26.
