MOSCOW, March 7 (Itar-Tass) —— Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said May Day holidays would become longer from 2013.

“The May Day holidays will be celebrated as before,” Putin said, adding that the New Year holidays would instead be shortened to January 7 when the Orthodox Christmas is celebrated.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin believes Dmitry Medvedev should have the country revert to daylight saving time mode. "Since Dmitry Anatolyevich /Medvedev/ did it, let him undo it," the premier told reporters on Wednesday.

Putin explained that Russia had given up switching between the summer and winter time at requests. "He /Medvedev - eds Itar-Tass/ did as he had been asked. Now they all scold him, asking why he did it," Putin said.

The Russian government, together with Dmitry Anatolyevich, is quite capable of making the decision on return to the winter/summer time, the prime minister added.

The president mentioned the time transfer problem for the first time in his state of the nation address to the Federal Assembly in 2009.

In February 2011, Medvedev announced his decision to cancel the transfer to winter time.

In autumn 2011, Russia did not move the hands of the clock one hour back for the first time. The country has lived "in the summer time" since the spring of 2011.
