MOSCOW, March 7 (Itar-Tass) — The Central Election Commission will announce the official results of the March 4 presidential election on Wednesday evening, the CEC press service told Itar-Tass.
The results were summed up in a record short time. The preliminary results were released in the morning of March 5 as CEC cited data from the GAS Vybory automated vote count system.
CEC's chief Vladimir Churov explained that the difference the official figures might show was negligible.
According to preliminary results, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is the clear winner with 63.6 percent of votes. He is followed by Communist leader Gennady Zyuganov /17.8 percent, Mikhail Prokhorov /7.98 percent/, Liberal Democratic Party leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky /6.22 percent/ and Just Russia leader Sergei Mironov /3.86 percent/.
The presidential election took place on March 4.
The Opposition was critical of the polls while the League of Voters public association released a memorandum, which stated the elections had not been equal, because discrimination of the well-known politicians limited the possibility of choice for citizens and made competition easier for the ruling party's candidate.
