Watering of fallen hypermarket elements under way, noone hurt

Flame engulfed the roof of the hypermarket on an area of 1,500 metres

ST PETERSBURG, March 7 (Itar-Tass) — Efforts are being continued to put out the fire that broke out in K-Rauta hypermarket in Kirov District here early Wednesday. "The watering of the fallen structural elements of the hypermarket is under way," an official in the press service of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies (RME) center for St Petersburg has told Itar-Tass.

A message about the fire at 38A Marshal Govorov (Govorov) Avenue reached the Fire Department at 02:00, Moscow time. Flame engulfed the roof of the hypermarket on an area of 1,500 metres. Structural elements collapsed on an area of 1,000 sq.m. The fire was rated as being of 3rd category of gravity on the five-point scale. Twenty teams of firemen grappled with the blaze which was localized at 03:18. Five water-hose lines were used in firefighting efforts. Noone was hurt.
