Supermarket fire in St Petersburg localized, no info on victims

The fire was rated as being of 3rd category of gravity on the five-point scale

ST PETERSBURG, March 7 (Itar-Tass) — A fire that broke out in in K-Rauta supermarket in Kirov District here in the small hours of Wednesday has been localized, an officer on duty at the Russian Ministry for Emergencies (RME) center for St Petersburg has told Itar-Tass.

A message about the supermarket fire at 38A Marshal Govorovsky Avenue reached the Fire Department at 02:00, Moscow time. The roof of the shop was enflamed on an area of 1,500 metres. Structural elements collapsed on an area of 1,000 sq.m. The fire was rated as being of 3rd category of gravity on the five-point scale. Twenty teams of firemen have been grappling with the blaze. There has been no information so far as to anyone hurt. Firefighting efforts are being continued.
