MOSCOW, March 5 (Itar-Tass) —— Hundreds of people have come to Moscow’s central Pushkin Square on Monday, March 5, to attend an opposition rally “For Fair Elections.
People are required to walk through metal detectors in order to enter the square. Police have cordoned off the place.
On the whole, the situation is calm and no law offences have been reported so far.
Up to 30,000 people may take part in the rally.
Another opposition rally may take place outside the Central Election Commission’s headquarters. It has not been allowed by the city administration. Members of Eduard Limonov’s The Other Russia tried to organise a rally there every Tuesday before the March 4 presidential election but every time police stopped the attempts.
Meanwhile, the Communist Party is also holding a rally that has brought together some 300 people, including 50 members of mass media.
About 12,000 policemen, Interior Troops and vigilantes are ensuring law and order in the centre of the city where the rallies are taking place.
