PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, March 5 (Itar-Tass) — Two Russian fishing boats, the Fianit and the Khokushin, have been detained in the Sea of Okhotsk in the Far East for breaching fishery rules, a spokesman for the northeastern border administration of the Russian Federal Security Service’s coastal guards told Itar-Tass on Monday.
The Fianit trawler was found to use illegal fishing tools. More than 49 tons of Alaska pollack and more than three tons of pollack caviar were found in her holds.
The Khkushin boat was spotted by the Pagella patrol boat in an area where it is prohibited to fish for Alaska pollack. Her holds had about 300 tons of this fish.
Fish products were seized from the ships. The Khokushin was convoyed to the port of Severo-Kurilsk, and the Fianit – to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. An investigation is underway.
