Artillery depot explosions in Congo damage Russian embassy, ballot uninterrupted

The accident had no effect on the Russian presidential election

RABAT, March 4 (Itar-Tass) —— The Russian embassy in the Republic of Congo sustained damage in a series of explosions at an artillery depot on Sunday, an embassy source told Itar-Tass by phone.

“There were five explosions at an artillery depot of the Presidential Guard located in the northern area of Brazzaville, about one kilometer away from the Russian embassy. The accident happened at 8:10 a.m. local time (5:10 a.m. Moscow time),” he said.

“None of the Russians was hurt, but the embassy building was damaged. The ceiling caved in in an embassy room, and practically all the window glass is smashed,” he said.

“The accident had no effect on the Russian presidential election. All is normal, and the voting is calm,” the source said, adding that about 100 locals were injured in the explosions.

Meanwhile, Russian First Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Denisov said that the explosions were not targeted against Russia.
