MOSCOW, March 1 (Itar-Tass) — The first national rating of the most influential people in telecommunications, communications and information technology in 2011 was published on Thursday by the TASS-Telecom web portal (www.tasstelecom.ru). The rating is based on a poll of 125 leading experts in the Russian telecom and IT market. They chose in seven categories the managers and professionals who had the greatest influence on the industry in 2011.
Minister of Communications Igor Shchegolev won in the category “State policy and the regulation of telecommunications and information technology,” much ahead of his deputies - Ilya Massukh and Naum Marder, as well as the head of the Moscow Department of Information Technology, Artem Yermolayev. Head of the State Duma’s subcommittee on information policy, information technology and communications Sergei Zheleznyak said that Shchegolev has proved to be a “very competent and energetic leader, who gathered a highly professional management team.” “It allows the Minister to confidently fulfil ambitious tasks for the development and support of the rapidly evolving telecommunications industry,” the MP added.
In the category “Telecommunications” CEO of Svyazinvest Vadim Semenov is slightly ahead of Rostelecom head Alexander Provotorov. According to the analytical department head of Uralsib Capital Konstantin Chernyshev, “Semenov got the high rating because a large-scale project of consolidation on the basis of Rostelecom of fixed assets of Svyazinvest was successfully implemented in 2011.”
In the category Mobile Operators” the winner is CEO of Scartel (YOTA Group) Denis Sverdlov. In the category “Information Technology” President of Microsoft Rus Nikolai Pryanishnikov was the best.
In the category “Internet and Internet technologies,” the undisputed leader is CEO of Yandex Arkady Volozh. Director of the Russian Association of Electronic Communications Sergei Plugotarenko said that Volozh is certainly one of the gurus of the Runet (Russian Internet). Arkady has managed to create a team and the product, clearly demonstrating that our country has a “mature” Internet industry.”
In the category “Retail Networks and Units of Retail Mobile Operators” the winner is President of Svyaznoi Group Maxim Nogotkov.
Finally, in the category “Education and Science: Telecommunications and IT,” Rector of the Moscow Technical University of Communications and Informatics (MTUCI) Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Artem Adzhemov was distinguished. According to his colleague, Acting Rector of St. Petersburg State University of Telecommunications Sergei Bachevsky, Adzhemov is an authoritative leader of the industry university education. He supervised the development of state educational standards of higher professional education in the “Telecommunications” sphere and the field of communication specialties, and the MTUCI has strengthened its role as an educational centre for training specialists for the telecoms industry.
