MOSCOW, March 1 (Itar-Tass) — Dagestan law-enforcement bodies established the identities of gunmen involved in the assassination of Makhachkala police chief Akhmed Magomedov in February 2010, and the murder of head of the Dagestan leader's information department Garun Kurbanov in July 2011.
"The investigators succeeded in ascertaining that members of the Gimri sabotage/terrorist group of religious-extremist orientation were involved in the assassination of Makachkala police chief Akhmed Magomedov in Dachnya Street," spokesman for the Investigative Committee /SK/ Vladimir Markin told Itar-Tass on Thursday.
"The group is led by Ibragim Gazhidadayev, and has several natives of the village of Gimry, Untsukul district as its members. The purpose of the assassination, committed by publicly dangerous methods, was to intimidate the population and destabilize the situation in the region.
"Gunmen are also involved in other very serious crimes in Dagestan. The investigators have evidence that gang members Abdula Zaguliyev and Shamil Abdulgamidov murdered the spokesman for Dagestan leader and his driver. They fired automatic weapon at the official near Mantashev Street in Makhachkala as he was leaving an apartment house and was about to get into his car.
"Ibragim Gadzhdadayev, Abdula Zaguliyev and Shamil Abdulgamidov are on the federal wanted list. The police are taking active measures to establish their whereabouts and detain them. They also trying to ascertain the identities of other members of the gang," the SK spokesman said.
