Iraq interested in Russian participation in electric power, oil and gas projects

The sides confirmed sustainable development of friendly relations

MOSCOW, February 28 (Itar-Tass) —— Iraq is interested in Russian participation in the development of its electric power, oil and gas sectors, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday after a meeting of Presidential Representative for the Middle East, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and Iraqi Ambassador to Moscow Faieq Neroya.

The sides confirmed “sustainable development of friendly relations and said that the next meeting of the Russian-Iraqi intergovernmental commission for trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation was bound to give it a fresh impetus,” the ministry said.

The ambassador stressed the importance of Russia’s participation in the development of the Iraqi electric power and oil and gas sectors and the readiness of Baghdad for broadening interaction with Russian companies, who had been doing business in Iraq before.

The diplomats exchanged their opinions “about the Syrian situation and called for its political settlement by the Syrians without external interference,” the ministry said.
